................. Each of the books in this series contains from 12 to 16 drawings. The media are graphite,
oil pastel, collage, monotype and photo etching. At the start I was interested in the spatial
relationships between text and page, page and binding and the metaphorical space for the
reader. My interest in spatial relationships expanded to include time, sequence and meaning.

The books, when closed, function as books do on a bookshelf, images trapped within the
bindings. When opened the bindings serve as frames or containers within which the pages
can be turned or rearranged, allowing the viewer to control the sequence of the narrative.
Because the pages are not fixed, the reader/viewer is more aware of his or her role in
determining sequence, and therefore meaning.
